Tidbits of Inspo #6 (No-Dig, Garden Weddings, Peonies, Biscotti)

Hi there! Happy Sunday.

We had a really cool day yesterday, highs of just 7°C and woke up to a bit of frost on the rooftops. Thankfully, it was not cold enough for long enough to do any damage to the tomatoes, dahlias, basil, or fall mums... as we did not cover anything. We decided it was do or die ; )

The temps are going right back up again to the high teens and low 20's, so gardens are still good to go! Just a one day blip.

Homemade salsa made with veggies from our garden.

We have made our salsa for the year, so even if the tomatoes had been goners we would have still felt okay about it. Now, we are greedily hoping that we get enough ripe tomatoes to make a batch of pasta sauce, as well. We always want more, eh?

This is the recipe that we used. I say we, but hubby really does most of it. All I do is skin the tomatoes and help with the jarring up. He is a retired chef so he is much faster and better at all the chopping!

We tripled the recipe - made one batch of hot salsa and 2 batches of super mild for wimpy ole me : )

Check out how big and gorgeous my homegrown bell peppers are, eh? These long ones are California Red Wonder. I also grew some King of The North. They are a bit fatter and shorter. All grew really well.

Psst - you know that peppers start off green and then turn red, yellow, or orange, right? Some of these were just about to start turning red, so we picked them just in time.

Garden Inspo

Most all of you have been doing no-dig (I think) for a long time now, especially if you took my workshops back on the island. The benefits (and no more breaking our backs) are irrefutable, so much better for our gardens, harvests, and soil life. If you have not, this article simplifies Charles Dowding's teachings about no-dig.

In the photo above is my grandson, when we was but a wee gaffer, top dressing the flowerbox planters. We babysat him 2 to 3 days a week so he was well versed in helping out on the acreage.

What to do with Peonies in September – 5 Easy Tasks for Fall  - this is the time to divide and share them, if you have been wanting to....or move them.

Homey Things

This is the 4th video of a garden wedding prep. It is lovely. I love the calming music, the ideas, and her soft voice. If you enjoy this, go back and watch the other three. They are all so fun to watch, under 20 minutes each.

We held my daughter's wedding at our acreage 10 years ago. It was a lot of work, a lot of fun, worth every bit of it... but I gotta say, we did not go as far as painting the house! The photo above is from the acreage, the day after the wedding. It was the hottest week of the summer, but the flowers held up just fine! I grew the flowers, of course ; )

This is a different garden wedding, but such a love setting. The photos are inspiring. I love looking at garden pictures at any time, but especially when done up for occasions.

118 Things to Do Instead of Doomscrolling - lots of great ideas for those of us who might be spending too much time on our phones, in the evenings.

Recipes

Cranberry-Pistachio Biscotti

glazed apple cider doughnut cake

Cosmos and sunflowers in this morning's early sunshine. I know it is not the perfect time for photo taking, but they caught my eye as the sun shone through their leaves and petals. The photo does not do them justice.
The baskets are my garden clean up baskets - used for deadheading in the spring, pulled plants in the fall.

That's all I have for you this Sunday. Hope you have an amazing day ~ Tanja
