Tidbits of Inspo #8

Well, hi there. Happy Sunday, eh?

I had big outdoor plans for today, but the wind is just too much for me. The wind makes me super cranky, edgy, out of sorts. Part of it is my hair blowing in my face, but mostly it just stresses me out. So, I am taking an inside day.

Do I have loads of stuff to do indoors? Yep. Am I going to do it today? Nope. Taking a vegging out day, a do nothing much day. They are needed sometimes, too.

I woke to the news about the big fire in Wainwright with 7 military members killed and dozens injured. I am beside myself. Even though my hubby retired from the army over 20 years ago, once an army wife, always an army wife. My heart goes out to the families and all the military members.

This fire was spurred on by the crazy 100 km/hr winds that just blew out of nowhere in the early afternoon. Semi trucks and cars were blown into the ditch. trees blew over, shingles blew off houses...

We did, however, get quite a bit done out there yesterday. before and after the windstorm.

It was t-shirt weather so we planted the garlic, mulched over that cardboard in the corner where the wild oats used to grow (for the dogs to eat), weed whacked, mowed, etc.. Those are my clean pots drying on the table, ready to go back in the potting shed for spring.

The wreath I made last Christmas.
Christmas wreath making: a florist’s step-by-step guide - I am already thinking about wreath making, as  I need to gather my greenery earlier here, before it gets too cold.

For cold hardy wreath making materials here on the prairies, I like to use...

  • A variety of evergreen boughs - pines, spruces, blue spruces, cedars (if you have some/see some) so that you have varying shades of green in your wreath.
  • A variety of dried flowers - roses, yarrow, statice, hyssop... anything that looks pretty.
  • There are very few berries here, usually, in wintertime, but you may be able to find some nice cotoneaster berries, snowberries, or, nest of all, rose hips!
  • Pine cones and spruce cones.
  • A big, beautiful bow.
  • You can, of course, add baubles and Christmas ornaments, too.
If you are a local reader... would you be interested in a wreath workshop here? I would supply everything, except the bow. Cost would be very little, just for the materials. Is not a make money thing, just a get together to do something fun for the holidays : ) Let me know!
